Is Mixed-Media Cheating?

TBH, my use of metallic liquid acrylics and acrylic paint markers feels like “cheating” or “breaking the rules” - not in a good way.  I LOVE the way it looks though.  I was encouraged to see that a few other artists at the “Art on the Lawn” event there were a few other artist who also used metallic paints in their art.

I feel like I shouldn’t admit this, but I feel like I use the metallics to make up for my poor technique. For example, the coffee press and tea pot don’t ask me to add metallics whereas I was unhappy with both the hands-in-water and magnified needle pieces and ended up adding metallics… and I’m still not entirely happy with them, although I LOVE the metallic aspects.  Perhaps I should make pieces that are designed specifically for the metallics instead of adding them onto disappointing works.

To that point, I think the use of metallic paint marker in my other piece involving the magnifying glass fits and feels natural.  It was always intended to be a mixed-media piece.

Pushing myself to try new things and allow mistakes.
